10 years after the release of the original game, Creative Assembly has revealed a sequel to Alien: Isolation is now in the early stages of development. Creative director Al Hope shared the announcement in a post to Twitter, saying: "Today, I'm delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development." More details will be shared when the team is ready.
Since its PS4, PS3 release in 2014, Alien: Isolation has gone on to gain something of a cult status with horror fans, and is highly praised by those who play it. While it didn't review all that impressively at launch, a committed fanbase has built around the game in the years since. The message from Al Hope can be read in full below:
Given the fact the sequel is in "early development", it's more than likely going to be a few years before we see anything tangible from the project, like a proper announcement trailer. Still, for now we know an Alien: Isolation sequel is in the works, and that's enough to make anyone's day. Are you happy about the news? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Holy *****, yes!!! Finally!
I shudder to think, how smart they can make the Alien's ai (gulp)
About time. This is the proper way to make an alien game!!
Best news ever!!!!
My favorite survival horror game.
If they sent out a sneaky 60fps patch for the original game in the meantime, that'd be the cherry on top! 🍰
I am ready to crap my pants again!!!!
Take my money!
Awesome news, some pacing issues aside, Alien Isolation is a fantastic survival horror game and one of the best movie licensed games rolled into one
I will buy whatever overpriced console or build whatever spec PC is necessary to play this.
What a fantastic game the original was! Can't wait for this!
There is a God 🥹
YEEEEEEEES IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!! I'M GONNA CRY!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
After how great Alien Romulus turned out. I want more Alien in general! But the anxiety the game gave me. Idk if I can take it, but I'll absolutely be there 😆
Well here’s some unexpected news.
A surprise to be sure.
Imagine building it with OLED screens in mind, dark as dark can get. I look forward to seeing more about it in the future.
No game has nailed the aesthetic from the original film like Isolation.
I may have to go back and give it another try before the sequel arrives.
It's always great when a horror game is announced and it isn't asymmetrical multiplayer nonsense, day one whenever it's ready!
PS5 update first please, to ease the waiting.
Oooh imagine if they made a VR version 😳
OH MY GOD!!!
IT'S HAPPENING!!! 😭
AND PLEASE DON'T MESSED THIS UP!!!
.
.
I heard many people bought / tried the game after they watched Alien Romulus. And the movie success possibly convinced SEGA to greenlight Isolation sequel.
But man, i still can't believe this! 😭
Here's hoping they don't dumb it down for a more mainstream audience 😮💨
Just imagine this bad boy on PSVR2... I can feel the anxiety building up already!
Absolutely thrilled with this news. Ladies and gentleman at Creative, don't rush it, take as much time as you need. We've waited long enough, happy to wait until it's damn near perfect
Best news of the day!!!!
How about a PS5 60fps patch or even (the Holy Grail) a PSVR2 port of Alien: Isolation please?
Very exciting news, but hopefully the xeno is not indestructible this time.
This is the best gaming news this year for me. Let's goooo!
Brilliant news!
LETS GOOOOOO
I would prefer a remake of the original but with about 8-10 hours of content cut out!
The game was really good at first, but it went on far too long and I got bored about halfway through!
Still have the original in the backlog ready to go. Although I’m yet to play it I’m aware of how loved it is… a real pleasant surprise that a sequels been greenlit.
I really liked this game to begin with but just found it dragged ob a little too long in the final third. Good news on a sequel tho. It deserves one.
Woohoo!!!!! I loved Alien: Isolation, but the ending went on way too long. I hope they refine the sequel by cutting out the filler and making as long as a Resident Evil.
I'm glad it's a true sequel and not another remake/remaster.
TAKE ALL MY MONEY RIGHT NOW, LEAVE ME BANKRUPT
Ryan McCaffrey has the opportunity to do something sooooo funny when this comes out.
Wow, didn't expect this. I really enjoyed this game, very intense most of the way through, even if it did go on a bit too long.
Ps6 launch title? Game will be years away, aint no way this releases before then.
Awesome - I have only played the very first part of this game. I like the terror-inducing story and will return to it. I always forget my VR backlog and these days I hardly play. I spend time reading news though.
I still need to finish the first game but it thought it was fantastic you can tell that the team that made it were big fans of the movies
Am I dreaming?
Yes. No. Maybe...
(Translation: F*CK YES!)
This is honestly great news. I remember buying the first when it first released. It only took me 10 years to fully complete it, due to the sheer horror of it. Cannot wait to take another ten years to get through the sequel.
@Medic_alert I recently came back to it too to finish off the platinum, off the hype of Romulus. It still holds up really well ten years later.
I was streaming Alien Isolation on my channel the last few weeks but just had to stop. While I can clearly see why it's so highly regarded, it just was not my thing. I'm way too impatient.
I thought the PSVR2 game this fall was the sequel? Haha
Wow! This is awesome news! And even better that hopefully it'll be the same creative team!
10+ years will be great to show changes in AI
This made my day.
nice, unexpected and great news.
hopefully this time in good.
Game had lots of potential but obviously was at least 10 hours too long
alien isolation runs at a lovely 60fps on series x
personally i never felt it was too long i loved every minute of it and didnt want it to end
The news I've been waiting for!
@JonnyAces I never really got on with it if I'm honest.
I'm a massive Alien movie fan and really want to love it but so far I haven't. Admittedly I also find that going back to things with less expectations and hype can help games immensely.
YES!!! I cannot wait. I will be playing the first game today, just for fun!
Never played it, saw it was on sale for $6 yesterday and grabbed it
Only took 10 years....
👏👏👏 im ready for this ☺️😁
I both echo and amplify every positive comment and enthusiasm posted above or below my reply!! YESSSSSS!!!!
As a matter of fact, if they'd like my pre-order now to help w/ development coosts (LOL!) I'll gladly give it to them.
That's super news, i just wish they'd update the 1st game to run smoothly at least on ps5 backward compatibility.
I often just play it for a little then i tire of the slow fps.
I was going to write an excited comment but seems I’ve gotta change my flippin’ underwear first.
So excited to hear about this. Personally I hope for a follow-up that builds heavily on the original, but cuts down the length considerably. Perhaps a 6-10h game with a lower pricetag, where the focus is on keeping the momentum with a good story and high replayability.
This has left me happy on a Monday evening
This is fantastic news. One of my favourite games on the PS4. Always deserved a sequel, glad someone finally saw sense and Greenlit the game
@Bagwag82 The VR mod for Isolation on PC is incredible. It made the scariest game ever made even scarier in my opinion. I sincerely hope they make this both regular and VR compatible!
Reading some comments who wants the sequel with much shorter playtime than the 1st game makes me feels weird as if i'm the only one who enjoyed my 14-15 hours with the main campaign (and 2 hours with the DLC). Not even once i feel the game needs to be shorter or boring.
Meanwhile, RE 3 remake got a lot of flak for being short while i finished my 1st playthrough around 6 hours long which was longer than og RE 3 and i enjoyed every second of it.
Amazing news. This is one of the very, very few survival horror games that genuinely scared me. There were many times my heart was racing and I was legitimately sweating due to nerves. The ending dragged on a little too long, but everything else was sublime. I can’t wait for this sequel - I never thought this day would come.
