A third entry in the strange and unique Pathologic series has today been announced for PS5, with a view to release in 2025. The newest instalment brings back Daniel Dankovskiy and equips him with a new time-travelling mechanic that allows you to revisit key moments in the narrative and alter their outcomes to your advantage. A teaser trailer can be viewed above.
While it's not confirmed in a press release, it sounds like Pathologic 3 will closely mimic the setup and story of the first two games, with the village of Isidor Burakh used once again. Dankovskiy has been invited there to rid its townspeople of a plague, but this time with the ability to time travel. "While the player still has only 12 days to save the town, this innovative mechanic grants them the freedom to explore and influence events in ways that reshape the unfolding narrative," a press release reveals. You can unlock new conclusions and story beats by utilising the feature.
It continues: "Experience the chilling, immersive world that made Pathologic a cult hit, enhanced with new layers of narrative complexity and eerie, unsettling visuals." This seems to confirm that Pathologic 3 is both a remaster of the original game and a sequel that introduces new mechanics, like time travel.
Nikolay Dybowski, the founder of Ice-Pick Lodge, added: "We can describe the concept of this mechanic as surrealist time management. Our goal is to give the player a sense that time is more complex than we typically perceive it — as a linear path. We want to show the player the possibility of existing in a world that is disassembled and functions in a way quite different from what we’re used to expecting."

I've been very tempted but wary of buying Pathologic 2. It intrigues me but I don't know if I'd struggle to play it or not. Perhaps with a third game on the way we might see the second game put in a playstation plus library nearer release?
Very interesting! I’ve only played part of Pathologic 2, I like weird games but my gods that things on another level. It’s good, incredibly atmospheric, but I just found it so unsettling and bizarre it scared me off a bit. Still, intrigued by this!
The picture got me hyped for Judgement 3 for a second there. Move along!
@tameshiyaku Glad to see I'm not the only one whose RgG-addled brain instantly went to Yagami when seeing the header image.
