I’m finally about to finish Ys 9, and wrap up the platinum trophy. I have Astro Bot lined up next, but also can’t wait for El Paso, Elsewhere to release Friday. I’ve also been playing Vampire Survivors and it’s just as addicting as it was last year. It’s hard to put the game down, and I think the sound design has a huge role to play in that. It is so satisfying to listen to damage because inflicted on enemies, particularly with garlic.
Gave the Metaphor demo a go. Played it for an hour and it's awesome. Heavily reminiscent of Persona but still has its own identity. Unsure if I'll get it at launch since I'm trying to avoid buying games but I definitely want to play it eventually.
@Voltan I only played it for an hour but it does have a calendar system like Persona. But that doesn't mean that there are time constraint mechanics as it could just be information. So unfortunately, I can't give you a clear answer.
@Yousef- The demo is based on the prologue so I don't think you'll be able to do other stuff besides the story. The entire hour I played was only story.
@Yousef- What I meant was that I don't think you'll get "free time" so to speak to do side stuff or explore the world. You'll be going through the story, which includes walking around in areas and dungeons as well as engaging in combat.
I finally got the platinum for Ys IX. I can’t wait for Ys X, but in the meantime I will probably play a few shorter games. Astro Bot and the new Legend of Zelda is calling my name.
@Voltan I just finished the demo and it does have time constraints very similar to Persona. Near the end of the demo you have 10 days to finish a dungeon to progress the story. Failing that will result in a game over. The demo ends before the 10 days are up. I didn't see any social interaction with other characters, but you can do activities and requests that will progress time.
@Kraven You are in for a treat with Astro Bot. It's such a joyous game.
I too have been dabbling in the Metaphor demo. I have a different quibble - why the fixed minimap, with no option to have it rotating when turning? This method always leaves me a little disorientated when moving forward and the map move sideways rather than the more usual rotating to face ahead with the character.
Other than that, I've enjoyed the gameplay to a point but I'm grateful for the demo because I don't think it will be a day one now, possibly one for a sale later.
The new FIFA is borderline unplayable. Some of the most insane input lag I’ve ever had, to the point that I’m trying to work out if it’s a feature rather than a bug. Last year’s had really good gameplay, this just does not feel good at all. I think they’re trying to nerf everything to make it more ‘realistic’ but all that happens is that it’s just a chore to play. A massive step back which is a shame because the new Rush mode is one of the best additions in years.
I'm having lots of fun with Dave the Diver I really like the gameplay loop, the art style, the boss fights, the exploration. It's easy but quite entertaining.
@BeyondKnight I had no idea there was any souls-like elements to Scars Above. Well you’ve just increased my interest-level in the game by about 1000%. It’s in my backlog too… so good to know.
So I mentioned this in the other thread, but I’m playing Vampire Survivors. The thing is, I’m actually playing it on my phone whilst being away from my consoles. And wouldn’t you know it’s starting to get its hooks in me. 😄 It’s a strange little game, for sure.
So I have a question to anyone playing it on PS5 — how does it work with the console version? When you die, do you get at least one extra life or do you have to immediately start over?
The reason I ask is because in the free mobile version when you die, you can continue your progress and be resurrected once if you watch an advertisement. Then after dying again you can’t continue, but you get some bonus gold added if you watch another ad. I’ve been watching the ads and they are about to drive me insane so I might buy the PS5 version.
It would be a good Portal game, I think. And I would very much like to have an actual joystick to control the character rather than that awful touch screen controls. Also, I wish I was getting trophies for this game. I’m popping 4-5 mobile game achievements with each run and I’m sure those would all be trophies if only I was playing on PS5!
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution I played it on my tablet and phone last year. The ads didn't bother me too much as I would put the device to the side or something, but I would rather not have them fo sho.
Whenever I showed it to someone, they would turn their nose up at it. I would be like "But it won a BAFTA!" 😂
