@CaptD have you done the circuit experiences? Those are a good way of earning quick cash. And the time trials within Sport that rotate each week can net you 250k-2m

@MatthewJP Thanks for the info, I've only completed one circuit experience but I shall get on those and thanks for reminding me about the Online Trails within Sport as someone did mention that to me but I totally forgot and yeah they have decent payouts even if i don't get gold.

@CaptD
When I was doing the same credit grind way back when I would start with the Trial Mountain cup for a quick 10min 100k then do the Cirque de la Sarthe one you are doing for@ 30mins 800k and I liked the Ferrarri challenge at Dragon Trail. I had then got the best part of a million around the first hour.
Then I'd try to do other stuff to stop it getting too repetitive. Other big credit races were the 800 at Sardegna and Prototype race at St. Croix. There are also a couple of quick couple of minutes dirt races for quick easy credits at Windmills and Fisherman's Ranch if you have unlocked them already.

... I did that Le Mans one so much I was dreaming about it! Anyway hope that gives you some options and variety so you don't have to.

Thanks @sorteddan and yeah that provides a bit of needed variety.
The Le Mans one is giving me 825k every 30 mins so a good payout , I enjoy the race but as you say it will become tiring quickly although I've just driven it in the Ford Mk4 1967 car which was good fun and an easy win tbh.

@CaptD Did you try the circuit experiences? Helps you get to know the tracks and gives you lots of credits. The Sardegna 800 race is also good for credits if you want to mix it up. Besides that there are also the time trials in Sport mode.

@Mr_B021 Thanks for the info, I had actually already done the Sardegna 800 but that was only because it was in the current weekly challenges.
As for the circuit experiences, I've only completed one so far and that was because it was one of the base menu books so I will certainly get onto those.

I saved up my pennies and bought the Ferrari 330 p4, at 20 mil (up from 9 mil at launch) it isn't a car I would have purchased if not for those meddling ki...err trophies.
But wow this car is my new favourite and fantastic in VR, you feel like you are in a fighter cockpit, love the open roof. Drives beautifully as well but quite scary hurling towards the back end of the supercars.

Not sure it is worth 20 mil though, next up is the Jag as I have the Ford which is also pretty great but doesn't have that Italian flair, so out with the Ford.

@CaptD You don't need to hold on to all three cars simultaneously. If you bought the most expensive one, you can sell it for credits and buy the next. Saves you some time grinding for credits. I kept all three cars for a while, but in the end I sold them all because I never used them. They are great to drive, especially in VR, but so are a lot of other (and cheaper) cars.

Absolutely, great track. I also saw a reset of the circuit experience mentioned. That’s a great way to earn some extra credits while maxing out your knowledge of every track.

Yeah looks like a nice update, I wonder if there will be a dirt variant of the new track at some point as it looks like it would be great in that form.

CaptD

Mr_B021

There were several dirt configurations in the GT5/6 versions. But from what I read this is, for now, the original tarmac track. I think the community would start a riot if this would be another dirt track

Ha ha I expect a riot Mr B.

Anyway just been driving my new favourite car in VR, Honda RA272 which I've been waiting months for it to appear in the Legends shop. Awesome in VR.
Plus been slowly chipping away at the licences, I'm in no hurry although the times might change next week (I hope not but talk is that the cars are quicker with the new handling/physics model). Anyway I've just got a gold which required 20seconds and I was bang on the 20secs....annoying test which was the downhill sharp bend at Laguna.

Been hankering for a good motorsport game. Played GT1 through GT4 a couple of years ago and enjoyed it immensely.

How does GT7 hold up in terms of progression, certificates, simulation and tuning?

And any recommendations for something more arcade-y, but still with progression mechanics?

LuXifer

nitraM

@LuXifer I would say GT7 errs more on the side of arcade than sim, a simcade if you will and in that genre I'd say its the best of the bunch tbh.

I in terms of progression, certificates, simulation and tuning GT7 has all of those things but the progression does feel a little tacked on in a way that it doesn't in GT4 in that you progress via "menu Book"

To me it just doesn't feel like a proper career mode but everything else it does fantastically.

If you don't like it, don't play it, and shut yo damn mouth

zupertramp

@LuXifer @nitraM yeah that menu book is something to behold in regard to just how disconnected and lazy it seems but the licenses are there as well. These are more like mini tests but typical of GT. Fun and challenging for the most part.

Tuning is the standard stuff you see with a GT entry. You can get down into the technical stuff or just buy the pro and racing upgrades (iirc) and call it a day. It all feels a little more sim than arcade to me but I guess this is a little relative.

I will say it's a blast in VR. I actually don't really play it at all unless I have the time to slide the wheel and pedals in front of the TV and slap on the headset.

LuXifer

@nitraM @zupertramp Yeah, that's the impression I've gotten aswell. That the career mode could've used some more work.

That this entry leans a bit into the arcady isn't necessarily a bad thing for me, as long as the physics isn't completely out of whack.

The rest sounds like just what I'm looking for. Just wishlisted it on PSN and put out price-alerts for local retailers. Getting it on the first sale.

Thanks a lot guys. 😃

@LuXifer There is more than enough progression systems like licenses, circuit experiences, mission challenges, menu books and the traditional Sunday Cups, etc. Although it doesn’t really feel connected in a career mode or campaign. What’s there is really good, especially in VR. You can tune/upgrade your your car diving into the nitty gritty details if you like. Because you earn quite a lot of credits early on doing all the activities, buying a car felt less meaningful compared to the earlier GT’s.

For me GT7 sits right in the middle between sim and arcade. It’s no Assetto Corsa (and therefore way more fun and forgiving to race online). If you want something more arcade like with a campaign and tuning, I suggest trying The Crew Motorfest or the latest Need for Speed.

@Mr_B021 You're not the first one raving about the VR experience in this game. If I end up getting a set in the house then I'll be sure to try it out.

I got The Crew 2 from the recent deep sale it had. That's what started this craving for more driving games in the first place. I can't quite put my finger on it but the driving in that game left me wanting something better. Maybe Motorfest is better.

Still, one of my most fond driving game memories comes from Burnout 3. Now THAT was a fun game, and the crashing minigame chefs kiss.

I've put New Star GB on my wishlist, looks to be a fun retro inspired arcade racer with some progression mechanics. Seems to be well received by users on all platforms.
